The Shia Kalma, also known as the “Kalma-e-Tayyiba,” is a declaration of faith recited by Shia Muslims. It is similar to the first part of the Shahada, which is the Islamic creed declaring the oneness of God and the prophethood of Muhammad. The Shia Kalma is as follows:
“لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله عليٌ وليُّ الله”
“La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur rasulullah. Aliyun waliullah.”
Translation:
“There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Ali is the Vicegerent of Allah.”
This declaration of faith emphasizes the monotheistic belief in Allah, the prophethood of Muhammad, and the special spiritual position of Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad, in the Shia tradition.
